safe space is fully behind this three word battle cry.
A number of women have asked me about starting a women's group, and I have balked at the idea. I am against joining committees and organizations. I find them oddly counter productive in my experience. Everyone means well, but nobody corrects what they are in the group to really change. The whole thing gets mired in red tape. It is with that attitude that blogger is a godsend. I wanted to start something that I did not have to lead per say. The objective was to create a place, a safe space where women like myself could talk and just say whatever we wanted to say, unencumbered by all the real and perceived pressures of our tiny island society. I also wanted a place where anyone could gripe and question our wierd and crazy island, and I tell you this place is a wierd place. It is hard to get a handle on trinidad and Tobago. I marvel at how the islands inhabitants justify this space. So safe space is born and I look forward to seeing it grow. I want safe space to be like a relay race, several people will be given the opportunity to carry the baton to wherever they need to run. Some runners will be sprinters and others may be long distance runners a,d some may be triatheletes. I am looking forward to seeing where this journey shall lead us all.
